The reinstatement of Christ Church Cathedral is well underway.  It is our time.

A message from the Right Reverend Dr Peter Carrell, Bishop of Christchurch

We are being called to join the many already on the journey to rebuild Christ Church Cathedral. Across the Diocese there is an absolute and resounding commitment to reinstate this glorious building, a taonga and part of our faith’s heritage in Canterbury.

As Anglicans we must take a lead in the fundraising campaign. The reinstatement of Christ Church Cathedral is an investment and commitment to the future of all our Diocese, from Christchurch across Canterbury and the Chatham Islands.

Christ Church Cathedral is the heart of the Anglican Church, our unifying Cathedral. A place where we are all welcome as equals. It is our time to show unity in supporting this project. A project that honours the design techniques of the past while improving the functionality of the Cathedral. New organ and acoustic design will allow the music and voices of the Choristers to resonate across the sacred spaces. Supporting external buildings will improve the church’s ability to perform its ministry in Canterbury. A more functional design in terms of worship and performance will allow greater accessibility for all.

We are reinstating with strength and vision. I’m personally asking all Anglicans to support this vision, to take the lead by investing in our Cathedral, our heart. With your support we will return to worship in this whare karakia nui as soon as it opens. Please join me and the many others who have already given generously.
